Give Sectarianism the Boot and Ripples in the Pond

Project Closing Conference

TWN were delighted to receive funding for 4 different Good Relations Projects for the 2018/19 year.

A Give Sectarianism the Boot project for young women in football, Ripples in the Pond for Derry/Londonderry groups and the 2 projects which had their closing conference on Wednesday 27 March 2019.

We were delighted that Robin Swann, leader of the UUP and MLA was able to join, showing his support for this vital work which acts as an encouragement to participants. Robin took the opportunity to engage with the women and hear the stories from their communities on the issues which affect their daily lives.

The Framing the Future Through the Past II Project – was so successful in 2017/18, that TWN applied for funding again working with a different group of women, yet again, this has been a tremendous success.

We kept the format the same as previous where discussions with the groups showed that the women thought that it would be wonderful to be able to showcase their research or chosen woman in some way, hence the idea of an art piece each to celebrate and commemorate their work on the project.

The Women Leadership & Moving Forward project offered the women of all ages the opportunity to gain an accredited ilm Certificate, from the Women Leading the Way Certificate, the Level 2 Award in Leadership & Team Skills or the Level 3 Award in Leadership & Management.

The women also took part in cross-community dialogue and politics for women and we would like to thank Eileen Bell, Joanne Bunting & Lauren Kerr for taking part in this event.

We presented the women of this project with certificates of achievement – their official ilm certificate will follow.

At this closing conference, we celebrated the lives of women from the past and present, we also celebrated the women who participated; we congratulate each and every one for the time, effort, dedication and commitment they showed.

Both of these cross-community projects has worked with 10 groups in total from across NI namely:

‘Women, Leadership & Moving Forward’

‘Framing the Future Through the Past II’
