A conversation with Henrietta Norton, the step-daughter of the late Mo Mowlam, former Secretary of State for Northern Ireland
TWN were delighted to host author and film maker, Henrietta Norton on 1 November 2018 in the second of our series “A conversation with” events, was again held in conjunction with the University of Ulster.
Henrietta is the step-daughter of the late Mo Mowlam, former Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
Whilst many were remembered for their work on the setting up of the Good Friday Agreement, Mo Mowlam was largely forgotten.
Mo oversaw the negotiations and played a large part in what led to the Good Friday Agreement, as the first female Secretary of State for NI, we were shocked at the lack of mention of her name and the contribution she had made.
Henrietta was a wonderful speaker, she spoke passionately about Mo Mowlam, of how even though Mo was a Labour MP, she had friends in other political parties too and how they may have disagreed on politics but not on friendships.
She spoke of spending time in Hillsborough Castle and of her film work. Catherine Ferrin of Silver Sister Productions interviewed Henrietta and took questions from several women.
Over lunch, Henrietta took time to speak with women at each of the tables on a range of subjects and has promised to come back.
TWN presented Henrietta and Catherine with a lovely ceramic piece with Henrietta’s name designed in ogham and made by an amazing young artist, Eimear O’Coailte
