What happened

Members evenings - Data Protection

January - saw TWN host a Members Night on Data Protection and records management. The Yearn2Learn ladies were brilliant, this was a highly informative, interactive evening and we all came away with a clearer picture of what needed to be kept until when and the issues with supplying our own personal data and what could happen to it!!!   Further information on courses run by Yearn2Learn is available from our website www.twnonline.com

Awareness of Domestic Violence

womensAid

On Thursday 20 October 2011 TWN in association with Belfast and Lisburn Women's Aid, held an information session for anyone wanting to develop their own awareness of domestic violence. This event attracted a lot of interest from individuals who work in the community and see domestic abuse regularly and there were individuals who wished to know more about it. The speaker delivered an excellent presentation on what constitutes domestic abuse, the effects this has on the victims and participants watched a hard hitting and award winning DVD. There were shocking statistics revealed such as, over 30% of domestic violence occurs during pregnancy. Also, the PSNI revealed that for 2010/11 they had responded to a domestic incident very 23 minutes of every day of the year and that they responded to one domestic related crime, on average, every hour in NI.

If you are experiencing domestic abuse you can call the 24 Hour Domestic Violence Helpline 0800 917 1414.
