TWN July 2012 Newsletter

positiveRelations

TWN were delighted to host another OCR Certificate Presentation Ceremony on the 28 June in the Dunsilly Hotel, Antrim to celebrate the success of participants achieving their OCR Level 2 & 3 Peace & Reconciliation achievements as part of the Extending Positive Relations Project. TWN were delighted that Jim Nicholson MEP was able to attend and present the certificates and he was particularly delighted to see so many young women achieve certificates.

In his speech Jim stated "If these funds are not here organisations like TWN will be in big financial trouble. This is where you have to lobby MEPs and Europe to fight for this. The good thing about TWN is that it is training their women beneficiaries to do this." Jim also assured the packed audience "I will fight to keep the women's measure in future PEACE funding. With your help and lobbying we can stop bureaucrats from taking it out; I congratulate everyone involved and wish you all well."

Jim concluded that it was vitally important that we publicise the good work TWN is doing and the good work European funding allows and we are in the process of drafting a newsletter for Europe.

As part of our 'Positive Relations' project, TWN currently offer the following qualifications:

  • OCR Level 2 in Reconciliation
  • OCR Level 3 in Peace & Reconciliation
  • OCR Diploma in Peace & Reconciliation
  • ilm Endorsed Award 'Women Leading the Way'

There are 23 centres involved in this project, child care, elder care, travel costs as well as workbooks, registrations are all covered as part of this project. Help will be given with confidence building and personal development. Why not find out where your nearest centre for delivery is and make new friends into the bargain!

people1st

People 1st have just received word from the Department of Employment and Learning (DEL) that funding for Apprenticeships will cease from the 27th August 2012 for candidates over 25 years of age on the date they start.

If you have staff that would like to complete an Apprenticeship and are over the age of 25, they MUST be signed up in the next two weeks to ensure they are on the system before the close date. Please talk to People 1st as soon as you can if you would like them to progress this for you.

Those candidates under the age of 25 (on start date) will still be able to receive full funding (as long as they meet DEL guidelines) and those people over 25 years of age currently on the system, will keep their funding until they complete.

This is now the last opportunity to get over 25's onto a funded programme, so if you have been thinking about this, we would urge you to contact: Caroline Bell – Centre Manager or Gillian Duffy – Apprenticeship Co-ordinator

Training and support will be provided to help you in your role, you will be part of a local team ensuring that no-one gets left behind when switchover happens! Training will include more information about the Switchover Help Scheme, which offers everything eligible people need to convert one TV to digital.
