Northern Ireland Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders

Speaker: Anne Reid

NIACRO works to reduce crime and its impact on people and communities. Their work is focused on making a unique contribution to the development of a society, in which the rights and needs of everyone, including offenders, are equally respected.  As a major voluntary organisation working in criminal justice NIACRO offers a number of services within its three key strategic areas all of which provide evidence for policy comment and influencing for change:

  • Working with Children and Young People who offend

  • Working with offenders and ex-prisoners

  • Working with Prisoners, Families and their children

Approx 30,000 people are convicted in Northern Ireland each year.  When an individual obtains a criminal conviction in court, they are not informed of the impact of having a conviction on either them or their family.  The presentation is based on what NIACRO can do to support offenders and their families and provide information on key legislation that impacts upon employers and organisations recruiting offenders for paid and volunteering positions.
